No more itching and scratching for this cutie!

Ashlea Armstrong’s six year old Silky Terrier Evie itches and scratches a lot due to allergies – and it doesn’t help that they live on a farm! Thanks to the experience of managing their older dog Sooty’s Cushings Disease,  Ashlea decided they needed to avoid steroids for the allergies if they could and opt for natural treatments. They discovered Rose-Hip Vital Canine with great results!

Cushing’s Disease usually strikes older dogs and is a tumor of the pituitary gland. The tumor causes the pituitary gland to overproduce a hormone that stimulates the adrenal glands to produce cortisol. Ashlea’s 16 year old dog survived a few years after his diagnosis but it left her determined to not overdo cortisone treatments in her younger adopted dog, Evie.

Allergies in dogs are often treated with cortisone ( just like humans). Evie’s allergic reactions resulted in a visit to the eye specialist and a course of steroid based eye drops. This worried Ashlea as she didn’t want to keep Evie on steroids long-term. She explains…

“We made a few trips to the vet about it, put her on hypoallergenic food and talked about a desensitisation program. She also had eye issues where she would scratch at her eyes like crazy come Spring and they would get quite pussy. We took her to an eye specialist and they put her on a course of steroid based drops…which helped! But then our older dog was diagnosed with Cushings Disease and once I was told that it can be caused from too much cortisone throughout his life I no longer wanted Evie on any kind of steroid.”

Ashlea focussed on Evie’s nutrition and tried Calendula tea for her eyes which was working, but her skin was still itchy! She then started Evie on Rose-Hip Vital Canine and that’s when she contacted our office with her story…

“A few weeks ago I started her (Evie) on Rose-Hip Vital – her eyes have never looked so good – they are so bright & beautiful! And her skin is great…she is no longer itchy at all! And considering it’s spring and our farm is so green at the moment I couldn’t be happier (just look at the photo!). She is also a fussy eater but she loves the taste of Rose-Hip Vital and polishes it off quick smart! Let’s hope we never have to see another steroid in Evie’s life as Cushings is a horrible disease! And she will definitely be on Rose-Hip Vital for the rest of her life!
