Losing a few kilos and getting healthier is high on the list for many people as the weather warms up. Spring time means getting out doors more often and maybe deciding to detox the body ready for the warm months ahead. Detoxing the body offers so many benefits. What you gain from a detox program is much more impressive than what you lose.
Kris Abbey gives us a run down on all things detox:
Why Do We Need To Detox?
If our body has the proper nutrition for a healthy biochemistry and if the organs of detoxification are functioning at optimal levels, our body is able to eliminate toxins naturally. However, if our body is producing and taking in more toxins than it can safely eliminate, a state of chronic toxicity occurs.
Every day we are exposed to toxins not just from poor diet choices (too much sugar, caffeine, fat, alcohol, processed food), but from our environment as well.
When your body has been overburdened with toxins for a prolonged period of time, your natural ability to detoxify is greatly diminished. It is under these unnatural conditions that you begin to manifest symptoms of being overloaded with toxicity and your organs and health are weakened.
There is enough evidence to support that this prolonged state of toxicity is the underlying cause of many chronic diseases. Detoxification has a beneficial effect on most chronic illnesses because it impacts almost all of your body systems: cardiovascular, nervous, immune, respiratory, reproductive, gastrointestinal, urinary, skin, musculoskeletal and endocrine.
Who Needs To Detox
Detox is suitable and recommended for just about everyone, but if you are pregnant, very depleted, exhausted or have a medical condition, then you should consult with a your doctor first.
However, some of the symptoms of too many toxins in your body and an indication that you might benefit from a detox are:
- Frequent headaches
- Poor digestion and bloating
- Acne and skin problems
- Bad breath
- Feeling sluggish and lacking in energy
- Poor sleep patterns
- Muscle aches and pains
- Inability to concentrate/sense of fogginess
- Anxiety and/or mood swings
- Recurring infections
- Nerve pain or numbness
If you experience any of these symptoms, its your bodys way of communicating to you (very loudly) you need a spring clean. Listen to your body please!
The Detox Diet
The aim of a good and sustainable detox program is to minimise toxic intake, reduce the load on the digestive system and provide key nutrients. It isnt about starving, rather fueling your body with an abundance of nutritious food to support your organs and give your primary detox organs (Kidneys and liver) a rest.
At the end of a detox diet like my Get Clean, Get Lean program it is likely you will experience:
- More energy
- More vitality
- Loss of fat, not lean muscle tissue
- Hormonal balance
- Decrease in blood sugar and cholesterol levels
- Greater concentration and clarity
- Improved skin condition and clearer eyes
- Improved digestion
- Improved acid/alkaline balance of the body
- Improved bowel function
- Greater health and wellbeing
Food is the most powerful preventative medicine available to us. If you eat well most of the time, get sufficient exercise, learn to manage your stress and detox at least once a year, you will have the health, vitality and emotional balance to enjoy life and experience your full potential.
You have absolutely nothing to Lose (except fat) and so much to gain by doing a detox!
