Ideas For A Happy Healthy Delicious Easter

Ideas For A Happy Healthy Delicious Easter

Easter is usually the time of the year that is abundant in all things sweet and delicious, but not always good for you! Avoid ending this Easter in a sugar coma by instead filling Easter baskets with some healthy and tasty alternatives that the whole family will enjoy.

Weve scoured the web for the some best delicious and healthy Easter treats that are also quick and easy to make to help get you inspired this long weekend.

Carrot Patches

These carrot patches are not only a great treat for Easter-time, but are a quick and nutritious snack that makes eating veggies that much more fun and interesting! Carrots are one the richest source of beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for tissue growth and repair, thyroid function and iron mobilsation. All you need for your carrot patches are a few terracotta pots, some hummus, carrots and parsley. Spoon hummus into small cups that will fit inside the pots, then poke a hole in the carrots using a toothpick and insert a small piece of parsley. Youll want 3 to 4 carrots per pot. Finally, plant the carrots in the pot by putting the carrots in the hummus and you have your very own carrot patches! Thanks to Taste and Tell Blog for the recipe.

Homemade Creme Eggs

Move over Cadbury, if you are a lover of the humble Creme Egg you will want to try this healthier alternative. With a healthy dose of natural saturated fats and antioxidants from the organic cream, butter, and unsweetened chocolate, these homemade Creme Eggs will allow you to have your seasonal treats while maintaining your healthy diet there is even a vegan and dairy-free option. Take a look at Healthy Indulgences blog for the full recipe.

Healthy Carrot Cake

A celebration is never quite complete without a cake and what better for Easter than a carrot cake packed full of antioxidants and superfood goodness. Our pick is from the Healthy Chef Theresa Cutters Healthy Carrot Cake. This cake is loaded with protein and essential minerals and scented with cinnamon, vanilla bean and a little honey. This cake uses almond meal instead of traditional white refined flours that store bought cakes are usually made out of. Almonds are packed full of protein and heart healthy fats that can help lower cholesterol as well as keep blood sugars stable. Theresa likes  to frost this cake with a simple vanilla frosting or top with thick Greek Style yoghurt. See the full recipe and video here.

Easter fruit and veggie cups

If you like to get a bit crafty try making your own Easter fruit and veggie cups. Get the kids to help you make these simple and fun treats by having them decorate their own cups, then fill them up with a delicious and healthy serving of fruits, veggies, yoghurt or grains. To make the cups all you need are some coloured plastic or paper cups, a black marker and some coloured craft paper. Simple as That blog shares her step by step guide to make the Easter cups including a rabbit, chicken, bluebird or carrot.
